SIMPLE & SUSTAINABLE NUTRITION;

Hey there, I’m J,

a Clinical and Sports Nutritionist (BHSc) and a current member affiliated with both The Nutrition Society Australia (NSA) (ANutr) and The Sports Nutrition Association (SNA).

Nutrition is one of the core pillars of health - hence the name of my practice - and as a dedicated Nutritionist, I focus on blending the art of nutrition science with the principles of holistic nutritional medicine to effectively support both health and athletic performance.

My primary aim as a practitioner is to provide clients with clear, simple, sustainable, and evidence-based nutrition coaching that seamlessly fits into their unique lifestyles and daily routines. Additionally, I strive to avoid any heavy restrictions or the pressures of diet and wellness culture, as these are often linked to more toxic traits and patterns than beneficial ones. Ultimately, your mental and physical health is always at the forefront of my practice, and I firmly believe that you should be able to enjoy all that life has to offer, especially when it comes to nutrition.

Evidence-Based Nutrition

Evidence-based nutrition uses the best research to guide food choices and recommendations. It takes a scientific look at how food impacts our health and performance, avoiding fad diets and trendy wellness ideas. This approach focuses on what works for each person based on their unique biology and lifestyle, helping individuals make smart decisions for their physical and mental health. It promotes good health while building a healthy, sustainable relationship with food that meets personal goals. Through continuous support and personalized consultations, evidence-based nutrition encourages real changes that improve performance and quality of life.

Performance

Supporting and optimising the performance of all athletes, regardless of their level or background, is a top priority. This includes everyone from your everyday athletes and energetic kids to ambitious teenagers and elite professional athletes. However, our mission goes beyond just sports; we first and foremost want to empower you to perform at life itself. This holistic approach extends to enhancing your productivity in the workplace, achieving academic success in school, and simply being fully present and engaged with your friends and family.

Individualised and 1:1 Consults

Each consultation and personalized treatment plan will be thoughtfully tailored to the specific needs of the individual client, as we understand that no two people are exactly the same. These discussions will be conducted openly and collaboratively with the client to ensure that the treatment plan is not only achievable but also sustainable for their unique lifestyle, preferences, and goals.

Non-Diet or Wellness Culture Approach

Food freedom is fundamentally at the forefront of how consultations are approached and how personalized treatment plans are meticulously created. This approach actively challenges and goes against the restrictive, often detrimental aspects of diet and wellness culture, all while promoting and fostering healthy, positive relationships with food.

In-Person & Online Consultations

Consultations are currently conducted seamlessly either via video call or in-person at SSS Physiotherapy in beautiful Inverloch, VIC, with the only exception being the initial discovery call. This flexible approach allows you to receive the expert support and personalised guidance that you need, all from the comfort of your own space or in a friendly, face-to-face setting. By utilising this method, we can effectively cater to everyone’s needs and preferences, no matter where they are located, their available time frame, or their unique daily schedules and lifestyles.

Pathology & Functional Testing

Testing is an incredibly crucial tool for healthcare practitioners, as it provides invaluable feedback and direction for the effective management and treatment of various health concerns or specific wellness goals. During initial consultations, recent pathology tests will be requested to establish a foundational understanding of the individual's health status. Additionally, further testing—whether it be pathology or functional tests—may be warranted, but this decision will ultimately depend on the unique needs and circumstances of each individual.

 FAQs

  • As a Clinical Nutritionist, I provide tailored nutrition and lifestyle advice to help my clients fully understand how their personalized diet and lifestyle choices can significantly influence their overall health and performance in various aspects of life, as well as promote, prevent, or even effectively treat a range of diseases.

  • My primary goal as a dedicated Nutritionist is to provide my clients with simple, sustainable, and attainable advice, backed by solid evidence and scientific research. I aim to empower them with guidance that not only helps them achieve their specific goals but also supports their overall health and well-being in a meaningful way.

  • Diet culture, wellness culture, and the notion of restriction have reigned at the pinnacle of ‘health and wellness’ for far too long. However, what is most interesting—and frankly alarming—is the high failure rate that consistently coincides with these trendy fad diets and stringent restrictions. Embracing food freedom and adopting a non-diet approach shifts the focus away from the outdated ideas about the restriction of ‘bad foods’ and counting calories or kilojoules. Instead, it places emphasis on how food truly makes you feel—physically, mentally, and emotionally. At the end of the day, my ultimate goal is for my clients to feel both fuelled and satisfied, providing them with the nutrition they need to thrive and perform at their best in all aspects of life.

  • Supplementation may occasionally be prescribed for certain clients, but for the most part, I prioritize and utilize food first in all my nutritional strategies. Your diet should ideally be providing you with all the essential nutrients and energy your body needs to thrive and perform at its best. However, there are exceptions to this general rule that apply to individual situations. For example, in cases of pre-conceptive care, during pregnancy, and in the post-natal period, as well as for individuals dealing with specific diseases or those engaged in high-performance athletics, supplementation may be warranted as an adjunct to one’s diet. This added support can play a crucial role in ensuring optimal health and performance.
